Eight Reported Dead As Fire Erupts In Moscow Building

Eight people have reportedly perished in a blaze which had occurred in a 15-storey building in Moscow on Friday overnight, after a fire alarm had malfunctioned.

The fire had erupted in the building in a southeastern district, an agency investigating criminal acts said, adding that four people were hospitalised. Emergency services said the blaze broke out on the ground floor of the building, adding that the flames were doused soon after midnight and that more than 200 people were evacuated.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) which is an examination board in Nigeria has revealed that five states in the country are yet to remit their examination fees of their candidates which is worth over ₦2 billion, spanning from 2012 to date.

Prof Dantani Wushishi who is the Registrar of NECO had made this revalation in an interview with newsmen on Friday, in Lagos.

He was in the state to monitor the ongoing 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) organized by the council.

Seven Reported Dead In UAE Flooding After Unseasonable Rains

It has been reported that at least seven people have been killed in the United Arab Emirates after a barrage of unseasonable downpours had triggered flash flooding in eastern districts of the normally parched Gulf state, authorities said.

“We regret to announce that six people of Asian nationalities have been found dead as a result of the floods,” the interior ministry’s chief of central operations, Ali al-Tunaiji, said.

Army Reshuffled As Top Officers Are Redeployed Due To Insecurity

As a result of the rising spate of insecurity in the country, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has made the approval of the redeployment of some top military officers and also the  appointment of new ones as insecurity rages in Nigeria.

The appointments had been announced in a statement issued by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, on Thursday in Abuja.

Nwachukwu said the new postings and appointments were done in an effort to reposition the army for operational efficiency.
