Emefiele: Reps Move To Prohibit CBN Chiefs From Politics

The process of barring politicians and those with political links from holding executive posts at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has begun in the House of Representatives after the recent disgracing outing of the current siting Governor for the apex bank.

Politics will also be prohibited for currently employed senior officials of the apex bank.

This is being proposed in the Central Bank of Nigeria (Amendment) Bill, 2022, which is seeking to amend the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007, which passed second reading at the plenary on Tuesday.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) as well as the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have sent a serious warning to the federal government noting that there would be no election in 2023 if it fails to reopen and equip public universities.

The NLC and CSOs in Rivers State have during yesterday’s protest declared that the time was ripe to save the future of Nigerians from a collapsed country.

The message of the NLC with its affiliate members and CSOs during a protest in Port Harcourt, the state capital, was ‘enough is enough’ to bad governance.

Inflation Surge: Global Recession Imminent, IMF Warns

Surging inflation and severe meltdowns in the United States and China on Tuesday pushed the International Monetary Fund, IMF to downgrade its outlook for the global economy this year and next, while giving an even grimmer assessment of what may lie ahead.

‘The outlook has darkened significantly since April,” said IMF chief economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas. ‘The world may soon be teetering on the edge of a global recession, only two years after the last one.’

At Least 36 Kidnapped As Bandits Attack Kaduna Again

No fewer than 36 residents of Keke B Area of New Millennium City in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State have allegedly been kidnapped after bandits invaded the community last night.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that the attack occurred around 9:00pm last night when many residents were yet to return from work.

Though men of the Millennium City Police Division were still in the area to ascertain the number of people kidnapped, a resident told our correspondent that about 36 people were kidnapped.
