Rising Cost Of Living: Ghana Police Uses Tear Gas On Protesters

While dispersing massive crowds of protesters in Ghana, the  police has fired multiple tear gas cannisters and arrested more than two dozen protesters in the capital Accra after a demonstration over soaring living costs turned violent.

Ghana which has been suffering from a pandemic-spurred economic slump and being hammered by the impact of Russia’s war in Ukraine, has seen inflation surge to more than 27 percent this month — the highest level in almost two decades.

Reports by Africa Daily News, New York have revealed that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike while in Turkey had refused to grant any audience to a former Minister of Police Affairs, Adamu Waziri, who had been sent to speak with him by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku Abubakar in a move for peace had deployed Mr Waziri to meet Governor Nyesom Wike, who is on holiday in the Eastern European country, after the governor rebuffed several attempts by the candidate to arrange a meeting between them.

The Custodial Centres of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have revealed that they are currently in charge of over 16,000 inmates above their carrying capacity, a situation has been revealed to have fuelled some form of  aggression among the inmates and overstretched the prison system in the country.

The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, has been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment for money laundering.

Nwaoboshi was convicted on Friday by the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.
