CAN Condemns ‘Outrageous’ Owo Attack, Calls For Action

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned yesterday’s attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, describing it as ‘outrageous’ just as it called for an overhaul of the country’s security architecture.

CAN’s comment was contained in a statement issued by Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, Media Assistant to the CAN President, His Eminence, Rev Dr Samson Ayokunle.

Russian General Kutuzov Killed In Ukraine As War Rages On

Russian Major General, Roman Kutuzov was on Sunday killed in eastern Ukraine, a Russian state media journalist confirmed on Monday morning. 

Africa Daily News, New York reports that Kutuzov’s death joins a long list of a string of high-ranking military casualties sustained by Moscow.

An estimated 11 Russian generals have died in the war.

The report, published on the Telegram messaging app by state television reporter Alexander Sladkov, did not say precisely when and where Kutuzov was killed.

The government of Lesotho has disclosed that more needs to be done to protect its citizens working in South Africa after hundreds of them were displaced during clashes with the local population.

A spokesman, Likopo Mahase, revealed that Lesotho, which is surrounded by South Africa, is serious about finding long-lasting solutions for the employment of seasonal farm workers.

Ondo Church Attack: Police Deploy Anti-Bomb Squad

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Mr Oyeyemi Oyediran, has confirmed the deployment of officers of the Explosive Ordinance Device Unit (anti-bomb squad) to the scene of the attack in Owo Local Government Area of the state.

This is contained in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami, on Sunday in Akure.

‘The command is aware of the attack at Owo, we will give you the full details of the incident later.

As condolences and sorrowful messages pour in over the gruesome attack on a Catholic Church in Owo, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the killing of worshipers at St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

Recall that gunmen had stormed the church on Sunday and killed over 50 worshipers, while several others sustained gunshot injuries.

In response to the viral video which has been making rounds on the social media, the Nigeria Police Force has announced that its personnel, Isaac Mathew, who was seen in the video pledging allegiance to a cult group has been demoted.
