Academic Group Threatens Mass Protest Over ASUU Strike

While reacting to the dangers of the ongoing ASUU stike on tertiary education in Nigeria, the Save Public Education Campaign has threatened to lead a mass protest over the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.

Vivian Bello who is the Convener of the group had told reporters on Monday that the plight of Nigerian students was worrisome.

Noting that education is non-negotiable, she said the insecurity in Nigeria “is traceable to the failure of the education sector”.

While reacting to the recent raid on an Abuja property belonging to a Nigerian Millitary contractor, the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has charged the ICPC to reveal more accomplices while openly demanding a thorough investigation of a military contractor, Kabiru Sallau.

Kabiru Sallau has been identified as the Managing Director of K. Salam Construction Company Nigeria Limited.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had raided his home in Abuja last week.

General Lucky Irabor, who is the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has openly faulted the call by Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State who had appealed to the people of the Zamfara State to bear arms to defend themselves against bandits over the rise of insecurity and banditry in the State.

Irabor had also reiterated that the call was not right, as the armed forces and some other security agencies were there to handle the challenges, while adding that Governor Matawalle does not have the power to instruct the Commissioner of Police to issue licenses.
