ECOWAS Court Decries Terrible, Haphazard Law Applications

Fresh reports reaching the desk of Africa Daily News, New York have shown that the ECOWAS Court of Justice has decried the poor application of community law by the national courts of member states.

The court stated that this impacts negatively on the growth of the law and the region’s integration project.

“In twenty years of operation, the Court has never been seized of a referral by a national court”, said Vice President Justice Gberi-be Ouatttara.

Ouatttara spoke at the opening of the first ordinary session of the 2022 ECOWAS Parliament.

Bola Tinubu who is the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, has been warned about the implication of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

An Abuja-based activist, Deji Adeyanju, warned Tinubu that settling for a Muslim-Muslim ticket would further polarise Nigeria.

He noted that “the divisions will become super obvious in the coming years” if Tinubu settles for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Prince Dapo Abiodun who is the Ogun State Governor has finally approved the constitution of an Ad hoc Committee of the state’s Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Commission.

A statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, named the Chief Imam of Ikenne, Alhaji Kehinde Husayn Lawal as chairman and Prof Kamal Balogun as Amirl-Hajj respectively.

In a fresh development, the Bauchi Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda has ordered an immediate probe into the setting ablaze of a suspected thief of a motorcycle at Chinade community in Katagum Local Government Area of the state.

A middle-aged man, whose identity had not been determined, was attacked by a mob who beat him to a pulp and later set him ablaze for alleged theft of a motorcycle on Sunday.

Sanda stated this in a statement signed by the Spokesman of the command, SP Ahmed Wakili, made available to newsmen in Bauchi.
