CAN Condemns ‘Outrageous’ Owo Attack, Calls For Action

CAN Fumes Over Owo Church Massacre, Mourns Victims

As condolences and sorrowful messages pour in over the gruesome attack on a Catholic Church in Owo, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the killing of worshipers at St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

Recall that gunmen had stormed the church on Sunday and killed over 50 worshipers, while several others sustained gunshot injuries.

Reacting, CAN, in a statement issued by Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, media assistant to the CAN President, His Eminence, Rev Dr Samson Ayokunle, described the development as “outrageous”.

A recent bizzare incident has seen 49 people dead and hundreds injured after a fire sparked a huge chemical explosion at a shipping container depot in Bangladesh on Sunday.

The toll was expected to rise, with some of the more than 300 people injured in serious condition, officials have reported while volunteers reported that there were more bodies inside the smoldering, wreckage-strewn facility.

In response to the viral video which has been making rounds on the social media, the Nigeria Police Force has announced that its personnel, Isaac Mathew, who was seen in the video pledging allegiance to a cult group has been demoted.

The police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, made this known in a statement on Sunday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has revealed that following recent developments, sensitive electoral materials will no longer be routed through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as was the case before now.

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu has confirmed the dip in electricity generation in most parts of the country while explaining what he believes were the reasons behind it.

The situation affects some states in Nigeria as generation dipped to below 1,940MW from 3,647MW recorded earlier in the week.

A massive fire that swept through a container depot in southeastern Bangladesh, on Sunday morning has killed no fewer than 16 people while leaving more than 170, according to officials.

According to the officials, the fire broke out at a container facility on Saturday night at Sitakunda, 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the port city of Chittagong, triggering multiple explosions.
