IPMAN Felicitates With Muslims On Eid-el-Fitr

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has enjoined Muslims to pray for a violence-free 2023 General Elections as they mark this year’s Eid-el-fitr celebration.

IPMAN’s President, Mr Chinedu Okoronkwo, made the call in a statement on Monday in Lagos.

The Federal Government had declared May 2 and 3 as public holidays to mark the  Eid-el-fitr celebration and Worker’s Day.

Okoronkwo congratulated Muslims for the successful completion of the Holy Month of Ramadan, which marks the end of the fasting period.

Ebute Meta Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises To 5

The death toll from the collapsed three-storey building at Ebute Meta, Lagos, as of Monday morning has risen to five, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) officials say.

An old three-storey building collapsed at No. 24 Ibadan Street, Herbert Macaulay Way, Ebute Meta, on Sunday night at about 10.56 p.m.

The Zonal Coordinator Southwest, NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, said that the deceased persons included three males and two females.

The number of rescued occupants remained 23.

Rescue operations are ongoing at the site of the incident in search of four of the remaining occupants of the building.

Some educationists in the North-East have ascribed the spate of early delinquency in schools and societal decay to the inability of parents to ensure proper discipline and moral upbringing of their children.

A cross section of the educationists who spoke in separate interviews in Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa and Yobe, attributed the trend to the parental failure to mentor their children.

Border Force Impedes ‘Hundreds Of Migrants’ At English Channel

The Border Force have announced that they have intercepted several groups of migrants in the English Channel who were desperate to migrate illegally.

In a statement which was sighted by Africa Daily News, New York, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) was reluctant to reveal the numbers involved until Monday (today), however, people who count arrivals in Dover have told the correspondents that they believe it was more than 200.

The MoD said the government is addressing the issue by ‘cracking down on people smugglers’.

It is believed to be the first time there have been crossings in 11 days.

Russia’s defence ministry on Sunday claimed that it had struck at weapons which were supplied to Ukraine by the United States and European countries and also destroyed a runway at a military airfield near the Ukrainian city of Odessa.

The ministry narrated that it used high-precision Onyx missiles to strike the airfield, after Ukraine accused Russia of knocking out a newly-constructed runway at the main airport of Odessa last week.

The regional of Governor Odessa, Maksym Marchenko also claimed that Russia had used a Bastion missile, launched from Crimea.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta have announced a 12% increase in the minimum wage as the East African country confronts a surge in the cost of living.
