Nigeria’s Problems Caused By The Elite, Amaechi Laments

Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has asserted that that the elite are the problem of Nigeria while also noting that the country can do much better if the elites can change most of their habits. 

He called on citizens to vote the right people who have proven  capacity into leadership positions to fix the country’s numerous challenges.

Amaechi gave the counsel on on Wednesday at the 2022 World Press Freedom Day celebrations in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The former Rivers Governor also called on Nigerians to always hold politicians accountable regardless of the positions they occupy.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday vowed that his country would not accept a deal with Moscow that would allow Russian troops to remain in occupied territory under any circumstances.

Zelenskyy disclosed that Ukrainian forces had already halted the Russian offensive in what he described as the first stage of the conflict. 24 Kurdish Militants ‘Neutralised’ By Turkey In Northern Syria

Turkey has announced that it has been able to ‘neutralised’ at least 24 members of Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in northern Syria.

According to a statement made public by the defence ministry on Wednesday, this happened after a Turkish soldier was killed in a missile attack in the area.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday announced the extension the party’s sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the 2023 General Elections.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka which was made available to Africa Daily New York on Wednesday, the party revealed that the nomination forms will now close on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.

Access To Safe Abortions Important To Save Lives – WHO Chief

The head of the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Wednesday stated that access to safe abortions saves lives, while reaction to a leaked draft ruling which revealed that the US Supreme Court was mulling ending nationwide legal abortions.

Speaking on Wednesday, WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that ‘restricting access to abortion does not reduce the number of procedures’, although he didn’t explicitly mention the US case.

Group Wants Nigerians In Diaspora To Vote At Country’s Elections

A Nigerian group in the diaspora, Chibuike Rotimi Amechi (CRA) Move Up Campaign USA/Canada, has called for legislation that will allow Nigerians living abroad to vote in the country’s elections.

The Director General of the group, Mr Joe Korka-Waadah, made the call on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, when the group paid the Rivers Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Emeka Beke, a courtesy call.

Korka-Waadah said the group was very concerned and disappointed that Nigerians living abroad were currently denied the right to participate in voting for candidates of their choice during elections in the country.
