Electoral Act Amendment Bill Yet To Get Buhari’s Assent

The Nigerian Presidency has debunked the speculations that are making the rounds that President Muhammadu Buhari has purportedly signed the reviewed Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

Recall that as of Saturday evening, there were insinuations that the President who proceeded on a trip to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates may have signed the bill into law, a development that was raising concerns in some quarters.

An online platform had on Saturday, published a story claiming that the President had already signed the bill, which was transmitted to him last week Friday.

No fewer soldiers and 30 ‘terrorists’ have been confirmed dead in fighting in northern Burkina Faso after the suspected jihadists attacked a military base in large numbers on Saturday, the army has revealed.

Troops in Bourzanga, a town in the northern region which has been bearing the brunt of a jihadist revolt, “vigorously retaliated against an attack on its base on Saturday”, the army said in a statement.

The attackers were “terrorists who came in very large numbers” and heavily armed, the statement added.

Five soldiers were killed in the fighting and 10 others were injured.
