UK Set To Exempt Nigerian Graduates From Visa Policy

The United Kingdom (UK), has revealed plans to issue visas that will now allow Nigerian degree holders to work in specific sectors in the UK, marking a positive move for the West African country.

The fields which Nigerian bachelor, master and doctorate degree holders will function include science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.

The new visa policy, according to the United Kingdom, will commence on May 30, even as it said applicatants must possess a degree that is equivalent to a first degree in the United Kingdom.

Igbo Leaders Request South East Presidency, Kanu’s Release

A group of Igbo leaders yesterday met with President Muhammadu Buhari during which they appealed to the President to tamper justice with mercy and facilitate the release of Nnamdi Kanu from DSS detention.

Mr Kanu, leader of the separatist group, IPOB, which has been outlawed in Nigeria is being detained and prosecuted on treason charges.

11 Killed Following Terror Attack In Burkina Faso – Army

No fewer than seven soldiers and four back-up troops have been killed in two ambushes in Burkina Faso’s troubled north, the army have revealed.

The first attack near the town of Solle on Thursday led to the deaths of two soldiers and four civilian volunteers helping the army while five paramilitary troops perished in another raid the same day at Ouanobe, the army said in a statement received Friday.

The ambushes were staged by “terrorists,” according to the army, using a term to signify jihadist groups active in Burkina Faso’s north.

The UN Security Council on Friday unanimously adopted its first declaration on Ukraine since Russia’s February invasion backing the Secretary-General’s efforts to find a ‘peaceful solution’ to ongoing the war.

The declaration, drafted by Norway and Mexico and obtained by Africa Daily News, New York, stopped short of supporting a mediation effort by Antonio Guterres, as was laid out in an earlier version of the text.

‘The Security Council expresses deep concern regarding the maintenance of peace and security of Ukraine,’ the text adopted Friday stated.

The Governor of Ondo State and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum has lambasted the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, over his brazen act of running for the 2023 Presidency whilst still in in office as the counry’s chief banker.

Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, declared Emefiele’s action as odd and one that constituted illegality.
