Truck Driver Docked For Alleged Reckless Driving, Causing Death

A 26-year-old commercial truck driver, Johnson Aja, who allegedly drove recklessly and without a driver’s license, was on Friday docked in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The police charged Aja with reckless driving and driving without a driver’s license.

The Prosecution Counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offense on April 13 at Market Street, Agege Lagos.

She said that the defendant drove a Foton Delivery Truck with registration number: FST 480 XN, in a reckless and dangerous manner and caused the death of Olamide Awolabi, aged 21.

INEC Commences Distribution Of Over 44,000 PVCs In Kwara

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kwara will on Saturday commence the distribution of over 44, 000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to newly registered voters in the state.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Malam Garba Madami, stated this on Friday in Ilorin.

Madami said that the collection of the PVCs would take place in all the 16 local government offices of the commission and added that they were for those who registered between June and December 2021.

“In Kwara State, we have received 44,506 PVCs,” Madami said.

Police Slams Charges On FFK’s Ex-Wife For Attacking Witnesses

Police authorities, on Friday, accused Ms Precious Chikwendu, the estranged wife of Chief Femi Fani-Kayode of threatening the lives of witnesses lined up in the alleged attempted murder charge against her.

The offence, listed as count 14 in the new amended charge, was alleged to have been committed by Chikwendu and Emmanuel Anakan, a co-defendant, on Wednesday within the premises of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Seplat Energy’s Revenue Rises 58.6% To ₦100.6bn

Seplat Energy Plc, which is a leading Nigerian independent energy company which has been listed on both the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the London Stock Exchange, has boosted its revenue to ₦100.6 billion, from ₦57.9 billion, which has indicated an increase of 58.6 per cent.

In its unaudited results for the three months ended 31 March 2022, the company also recorded a rise in profit before tax by 197.8 per cent to ₦34.7 billion from ₦10.6 billion year-on-year, adding that cash generated from its operations amounted to ₦74.4 billion from ₦1.7 billion year-on-year, rising by 197.8 per cent.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday raised the alarm that the continent of Africa is presently facing an explosion of preventable diseases owing to delays in vaccinating children, with the cases of measles for example jumping by over 400 percent.
