We Will Fight To The End, Ukraine President Zelensky Insists

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, invoking the wartime defiance of British prime minister Winston Churchill, has again vowed to ‘fight to the end’ and not give up in the ongoing war.

The Ukrainian leader made this known in a historic virtual speech to UK lawmakers on Tuesday which was monitored by Africa Daily News, New York.

No fewer than 65 persons mostly members of the local vigilante have been reportedly killed by bandits in border communities in Niger and Kebbi states over the last three days.

Energy giant Shell on Tuesday revealed that it will withdraw from Russian gas and oil and immediately discontinue purchases of its crude, citing the country’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

The company also apologised for buying a cargo of Russian oil last week, adding that it shouldn’t have happened and would never happen again.

The Nigerian Senate has begun moves to amend the 2022 Electoral Act, ignoring a Federal High Court order which actually restrained the National Assembly from tampering with the newly amended Act which was signed into law by the President two weeks ago.

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday directed the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi and his deputy, Mr Eric Igwe, to vacate their seats as the sitting governor and deputy respectively.

The court gave the ruling on the grounds that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the election on March 2019 and not its candidate. The court held that having defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Umahi and his deputy cannot transfer the mandate of the PDP to the APC.
