Finland Named World’s Happiest Nation For Fifth Year

Finland was on Friday named the world’s happiest country for the fifth year in a row, in an annual UN-sponsored index that again ranked Afghanistan as the unhappiest, followed closely by Lebanon.

According to the rankings, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania recorded the biggest boosts in wellbeing. The largest falls in the World Happiness table, released on Friday, came in Lebanon, Venezuela and Afghanistan.

Electoral Act: Court Orders Malami To Remove Section 84(12)

A Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, Abia State on Friday ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami to immediately delete Section 84 (12) of the Amended New Electoral Act.

In a ruling, Justice Evelyn Anyadike held that the section was unconstitutional, invalid, illegal, null, void and of no effect whatsoever and cannot stand, as it is in violation of the clear provisions of the Constitution.

Gunmen Abduct Eight Kwara APC Leaders

No fewer than eight members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been abducted between Araromi Opin and Obbo Ile in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara.

Africa Daily News, New York kidnapped while returning from the inauguration of the Kwara chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Executive Committee from Ilorin.

One Adekunle Oluwole, a relative of one of the victims, broke the news of their abduction on Thursday in Ilorin.

Russia Accuses Google, YouTube Of ‘Terrorist’ Activities

Russian regulators on Friday came hard on US tech giant Google and its video subsidiary YouTube accusing it of ‘terrorist’ activities, which appears to be the first step towards a possible access ban.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that Russia has already blocked access to other global tech giants including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as several independent media from her webspace.

Russian media regulator Roskomnadzor said YouTube users ‘are sharing adverts with calls to shut down railway communications between Russia and Belarus’.

NERC Confirms Removal Of Electricity Subsidy

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Friday has confirmed the removal of electricity subsidies by the Federal Government indicating that the citizens would now bear the full cost going forward.

While addressing a news conference in Abuja on Friday morning, the Chairman of the Commission, Mr Sanusi Garba, revealed that the review was conducted in line with multi-year tariff order that mandates that electricity tariff be reviewed every six months.

Insecurity: 57 Abducted As Terrorists Attack Kaduna Community

No fewer than Fifty-seven (57) persons were reportedly abducted, while one person was said to have sustained a gunshot injury when terrorists invaded Agunu Dutse community, in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A resident of the area, Philip John, who spoke to newsmen revealed that the terrorists stormed the community on foot in the early hours of Thursday, at about 1 am before carrying out the abductions.
