Truck and taxi drivers Moroccan are observing a three-day strike in protest at spiraling fuel costs, a union said Tuesday, as oil prices spike over Russia’s war in Ukraine.

About three quarters of drivers are observing the strike, Mounir Benazouz of the SNPTR truckers’ union clarified.

Shell Moves To Block Russian Energy Purchases

Energy giant Shell on Tuesday revealed that it will withdraw from Russian gas and oil and immediately discontinue purchases of its crude, citing the country’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

The company also apologised for buying a cargo of Russian oil last week, adding that it shouldn’t have happened and would never happen again.

‘Shell today announced its intent to withdraw from its involvement in all Russian hydrocarbons, including crude oil, petroleum products, gas and liquefied natural gas in a phased manner, aligned with new (UK) government guidance,’ it said in a statement.

Senate Moves To Amend Electoral Act, Despite Court Ruling

The Nigerian Senate has begun moves to amend the 2022 Electoral Act, ignoring a Federal High Court order which actually restrained the National Assembly from tampering with the newly amended Act which was signed into law by the President two weeks ago.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that Senate President Ahmad Lawan during plenary on Tuesday disclosed that the constitution stipulates separation of powers and the judiciary cannot stop another arm of government in performing its roles in a democracy.
