The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, on Tuesday asserted that Nigeria needs to increase its revenues in order to address complaints over the sharing formula of federation proceeds.

The Governor made this comment while speaking at the State Government House in Benin-City during a courtesy visit of the Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Muheeba Dankaka.

‘The issue for us in Nigeria should be how to bake a bigger cake, because the cake we are trying to share has become too small,’ the Governor said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama yesterday defended the Federal Government of Nigeria’s response to the evacuation of Nigerians in Ukraine by saying that the country never expected Russia to invade Ukraine.

The President of African Development Bank, AfDB, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has decried the high rate of joblessness among Nigerians at the moment, asserting that about 40 per cent of youths were unemployed.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymr Zelensky has declared that prisoners with military experience willing to fight the Russians will be released in the coming days to join the raging war.

Zelensky made this known during a speech in the country’s capital Kyiv, as a Ukrainian delegation and Russian representatives meet for peace talks at the Belarusian border.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the notice of election for the 2023 general elections, in compliance with extant provisions of the law a move which has marked the beginning of political activities.
