Ignore Protests, Remove PMS Subsidy, IMF Advises FG

In the wake of the controversies surrounding the removal of fuel subsidy, International Monetary Fund (IMF) has insisted that the removal of fuel subsidy remains the panacea to Nigeria’s economic recovery.

In its World Economic Outlook report, IMF executive directors urged the government to  devise means ofcompensating the poor, stressing that the saved resources should be transparently utilised.

Directors highlighted the urgency of fiscal consolidation to create policy space and reduce debt sustainability risks.

In this regard, they called for significant domestic revenue mobilisation, including by further increasing the value-added tax rate, improving tax compliance, and rationalising tax

Court Orders Kyari, Six Others’ Detention For 14 More Days

A Federal High Court in Abuja, yesterday granted the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) permission to further detain the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, and six others for 14 days.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that others to be detained alongside Kyari are the alleged drug couriers named in the drug trafficking case involving the suspended head of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team.

Justice Zainab Abubakar gave the order for the detention of the seven suspects pending the completion of investigation into the allegations against them.
