West African leaders will on Thursday (today) hold a key summit as a wave of coups buffet a region struggling with poverty and a long history of turbulence.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that emergency talks in the Ghanaian capital Accra were triggered after Burkina Faso on January 24 became the third member of the 15-nation Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to be overtaken by the military in less than two years.

Senegal Beat Burkina Faso To Cruise Into AFCON Final

The Senegalese national team are through to a second consecutive Africa Cup of Nations final after breaking Burkina Faso hearts in their last-four tie in Yaounde yesterday, after Abdou Diallo, Idrissa Gana Gueye, and Sadio Mane scored second-half goals to secure a 3-1 victory.

Aliou Cisse’s team had two penalties awarded in the first half only for the Ethiopian referee to change his mind both times following a VAR review.

Over 15 months after the 2020 Endsars protests, the Senate has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to evolve and implement holistic reforms in the Nigerian Police Force.
