Cameroonian Senator Killed In Restive Anglophone Region

An opposition Senator was shot dead in western Cameroon where a bloody insurgency is being waged by anglophone separatists against the Cameroonian State, his party and an official has disclosed.

The lawmaker by name, Henry Kemende, whose body was found Wednesday, ‘was killed (overnight) by unidentified armed assailants’, a local communications ministry official confirmed to newsmen on the condition of anonymity.

He had been a lawyer and lawmaker for the Social Democratic Front (SDF), one of Cameroon’s main opposition parties.

Telecom Operators Restore Twitter Access Following FG’s Order

Nigerians woke up on Thursday and noticed that they were able to access Twitter without using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) after the Federal Government lifted its suspension on the microblogging network on Wednesday evening.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that the Federal Government had in June last year suspended Twitter in Nigeria after accusing the platform of enabling the spread of fake news and hate speech that undermined national security.

The Twitter hammer came into effect days after the platform deleted a tweet from President Muhammadu Buhari referencing the Nigerian civil war.
