Don’t Abort Fuel Subsidy, Make It Transparent, NLC Urges FG

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government to work towards seeking a means of achieving a transparent subsidy process rather than causing citizens untold hardship by completely removing it as they have hinted.

 

It also described the continuous importation of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as a ‘forced policy’ on Nigeria.

President of NLC, Ayuba Wabba, made these assertions in Abuja during an interview with journalists on the sideline of the 48th National Executive Council meeting of Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN).

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has uncovered an additional $72, 870,000 million linked to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The sum was said to have been discovered in an account domiciled in Fidelity Bank Plc.

Consequently, a former Managing Director of the bank, Nnamdi Okonkwo, has been arrested.

Okonkwo, who is currently the Chairman of First Bank Holding, alongside others, had earlier been grilled over a sum of $153million and $115million by the Commission.

Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday warned EU lawmakers that the bloc’s drive to deliver Covid-19 booster jabs could hamper vaccination in Africa, as he slammed travel bans over the Omicron variant.

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that he would ensure that Nigeria keeps all the pledges made to the ECOWAS Parliament, and to the sub-regional body at large.

This assurance was contained in a statement signed by his spokesman, Femi Adesina on Tuesday.

Buhari gave the assurance at the State House in Abuja, while receiving a team from ECOWAS Parliament, led by the Speaker, Dr Sidie Mohammed Tunis.

He commended the parliament for planning to fill its positions subsequently through elections, which would be incorporated into general elections of member countries, noting that ‘it would be cost-effective.’
