Covid-19: China Reports First Omicron Case

China has reported its first case of the fast-spreading Omicron coronavirus variant, state media disclosed on Monday.

Authorities in the northern city of Tianjin confirmed the case in an individual who entered the country from an undisclosed overseas location, according to the Tianjin Daily newspaper.

The asymptomatic patient tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday before further tests ‘confirmed the detection of the… Omicron variant’, the report said, adding that the person was being treated in isolation at hospital.

UI Emerges Best Varsity In 2021 As NUC Releases Ranking

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has ranked the University of Ibadan (UI) first in its latest 2021 ranking which was released yesterday.

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that the ranking, which was carried out using twelve indicators, involved 113 universities across Nigeria.

The institutions were ranked based on the google scholar index, the total number of full-time students, students and staff ratio, efficiency, the number of international students, and contribution to the knowledge economy.

Other criteria include; percentage of Programmes with full-time accreditation, percentage of international staff, all citations per capita, amongst others.

West African leaders have threatened further sanctions against Mali within weeks if the country’s junta makes fails to make ‘concrete progress’ toward holding democratic elections in February as earlier promised.
