The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, on Thursday held a session with the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations and Communications over the issue of indirect primaries.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that the House had last week resolved that committees should meet with the INEC Chairman over the indirect primaries.

The resolution was made last week after a motion by Leke Abejide from Kogi State.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Muktar Batera, while briefing journalists, said lawmakers discussed the cost of direct primaries.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has challenged anti-graft agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to do well to investigate his administration’s spending of State revenue.

Governor Wike threw up the challenge while speaking on Thursday at the commissioning of the Rumuola Flyover in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State.

He boasted that the resources of Rivers State have been judiciously utilised which are evident in the numerous projects carried out by his administration in the last 6 years despite the difficulties.

The Commissioner for Science and Technology in  Katsina State, Dr. Rabe Nasir, was reportedly killed on Wednesday night by unknown persons suspected to be bandits.

Details of the murder were still sketchy as at the time of this report on Thursday but reliable sources revealed that the body of the late Commissioner was discovered in his house late on Thursday morning.

According to one of the sources, ‘the Commissioner lived alone in his residence apart from the security guard and for now, we don’t really know what happened to the security man.

Malawi police have announced the arrest of a former finance minister and an ex-central bank chief for forging figures in a bid to impress the IMF.

Joseph Mwanamveka, 57, and Reserve Bank of Malawi former governor, Dalitso Kabambe, 48, are accused of having cooked up numbers to secure a loan from the Washington-based development and crisis lender.

A former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has claimed that some corrupt judges are usually made part of election petition tribunals in order to corruptly enrich themselves by selling judgments to the highest bidders.

Jega disclosed that some of these corrupt judges sold judgments to the highest bidders and quickly retired to avoid being sanctioned by the National Judicial Council.
