Four Rebels, Six Civilians Killed In East DR Congo

No fewer than six civilians were killed in two attacks carried out by the ADF rebel group in DR Congo, the army disclosed on Thursday, adding that it had pursued and killed four assailants.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) is the deadliest of more than 120 armed groups in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and the US has formally linked it to the so-called Islamic State (IS).

A group of angry Muslim Malawian youths yesterday burnt down a church and a pastor’s house in Mangochi district, in the Southeastern part of the country, raising serious concerns of religious tensions in the area.

World Food Prices Hit 10-Year High

Global food prices jumped to a 10-year high in October, a UN agency announced on Thursday as it said the world’s cereal stocks were set to contract.

The Food and Agricultural Organization said its food price index, which tracks changes in the international prices of a basket of food commodities, rose three percent over the month to 133.2 points.

The third consecutive monthly rise in the index brought it to its highest level since July 2011.
