VAT Suit Will Test Nigeria’s Respect For Rule Of Law – Wike

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has submitted that the historic legal battle between the Rivers Government and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) with respect to Value Added Tax (VAT), will demonstrate whether the country respects the rule of law or not.

According to the governor, the decision of the State Government to seek judicial interpretation on VAT collection, was targeted at strengthening the rule of law and Nigeria’s democracy in general.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Monday submitted that more resources are required for higher institutions of learning to invest in research, to improve the quality of education in the country.

Former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah attended her trial on Monday in a petition by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to avoid an arrest warrant being issued for her.

Before today’s trial, Oduah had failed to appear before the court five times.

During the last sitting on July 12, Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo threatened to issue a warrant of arrest if the former minister failed to appear on her next trial date.

20 Injured As Vehicle Plows Into Wisconsin Christmas Parade

A vehicle crashed into a Christmas parade in the US State of Wisconsin on Sunday evening injuring more than 20 people, police said.

Police Chief Dan Thompson told reporters that, ‘A red SUV drove into our Christmas parade that we were holding downtown, More than 20 individuals were injured, as a result of this incident.’
