A Pentagon report warns that China’s rapidly growing nuclear arsenal is expanding at a much faster pace than estimated just a year ago, while a new Chinese military modernization goal could provide Beijing with ‘more credible military operations in Taiwan.’

The accelerating speed of China’s nuclear expansion may enable Beijing to have up to 700 deliverable nuclear warheads by 2027, with Beijing’s intended goal of obtaining at least 1,000 nuclear warheads by 2030, according to the Pentagon’s annual “China Military Power” report to Congress that was released Wednesday.

Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Tuesday, abducted five travellers along the Damaturu-Maiduguri Road.

The incident occurred at about 3pm at Tamsukau in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State. The town is about 7 kilometres from Ngamdu, where the Super Camp of Armed Forces is located.

The Nigerian Army has lamented the reduction of its budget from N710 billion earlier proposed to ₦579 billion in 2022.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Lagos State, on Wednesday confirmed an attack on its personnel at the Lagos High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), during a hearing for inmates.

The Lagos state NCoS spokesperson, Mr Olarotimi Oladokun, confirmed the attack in an interview with the Africa Daily News, New York in Lagos, saying the attack was staged by persons suspected to be associates of an inmate with a view to hijacking him.

He further confirmed that one of the attackers was shot while trying to dispossess an armed personnel of his rifle.
