Turkey: U.S., Germany, France Envoys Now ‘Persona Non Grata’

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has ordered the foreign ministry to declare 10 ambassadors ‘persona non grata’ for calling for the release of philanthropist Osman Kavala.

Erdogan gave the order on Saturday in a speech in the city of Eskisehir.

The declaration affects the ambassadors of the United States, Germany, France, Netherlands, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, New Zealand, Norway and Sweden.

Erdogan considered it an affront for the envoys to comment on the arrest since 2017 of philanthropist Osman Kavala, who is in a Turkish prison in alleged connection with the 2016 aborted coup.

837 Inmates Escape From Oyo Prison, 262 Recaptured

The Nigeria Correctional Service, Oyo State Command, said 837 awaiting trial inmates escaped from the Abolongo Correctional Centre in Oyo Town when suspected gunmen attacked the facility.

Public Relations Officer, Olanrewaju Anjorin, confirmed the figure.

Anjorin said all the 837 awaiting trial inmates were freed by the attackers but the cell housing the convicts and the inmates were not vandalised.

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists in about ten gun trucks, in the early hours of Saturday, invaded Katarko village, in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

A source, who spoke to Africa Daily News, New York from a hidden place, said the attackers drove into the village in a convoy of gun trucks at about 8am shooting sporadically.
