Soldiers, Gunmen Engage In Shootout In Ekiti, 6 Rescued

Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Friday engaged soldiers in a shootout in two different locations in Ayebode and Ilasa communities in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Police spokesman, ASP Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, revealed the gunmen abducted three persons during the confrontation.

Abutu stated that the combined forces of the military and the police rescued six other captives from the gunmen.

‘The information we heard was that four persons were abducted.

‘Security operatives responded swiftly to the situation and rescued six persons.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami said an investigation has revealed that a yet-to-be identified Federal lawmaker was a major sponsor of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho.

Malami said the investigation unravelled how Igboho got monies from 43 bank accounts, across nine banks.

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has rejected what it called the persistent double standards in federal government policies and initiatives.

HURIWA said the Federal Government through the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, was trying to cause separation between the Yoruba and Igbo nations.
