Over 17 Migrants Found Dead On Libya Beach – Coast Guard

The bodies of no fewer than 17 migrants were on Wednesday found washed up on a Libyan beach after their boat capsized during a bid to reach Europe by sea, the coast guard have disclosed.

Libya is a major departure point for desperate migrants, tens of thousands of whom board unseaworthy boats every year in attempts to reach Italian shores 300 kilometres (190 miles) away.

Sixteen Soldiers Killed In Central Mali Attack

No fewer than sixteen soldiers were killed and 10 others wounded in an attack in central Mali on Wednesday, security and health officials in the war-torn Sahel state have disclosed.

Mali’s army had earlier disclosed that five soldiers had been killed and eight wounded. However, a health official working in central Mali said the death toll had risen to 16, with 10 soldiers injured.

A security source, who requested anonymity, confirmed the toll.

Bandits Kill 10, Injure 11 In Katsina Community

Suspected bandits have killed no fewer than 10 people and injured 11 others in Yasore village, Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The bandits were also said to have looted several houses in the village during which they stole money, phones, clothes, foodstuff, and other personal items.

Residents said the assailants also rustled several domestic animals after they had set ablaze scores of houses and food barns.

It was learnt that the bandits, who were armed with sophisticated weapons, swooped on the village on motorcycles at about 6.30pm. They were said to be on a reprisal attack.
