VAT Dispute: South-South States To Join Suit At Appeal Court

Governors of the South-South have resolved that states in the region should join the suit filed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) challenging the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) by states.

This formed part of the resolutions reached at the meeting of the South-South Governors’ Forum held on Monday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Delta State Governor and Chairman of the forum, Ifeanyi Okowa, disclosed this while briefing reporters at the end of the closed-door meeting.

The Archbishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has not shown any iota of sincere in dealing with terrorists killing Nigerians.

The fiery preacher wondered why it is difficult for the government to release names of sponsors of Boko Haram terrorists, while ‘Nigeria is decomposing from within.’

Speaking in a sermon at the Priestly Ordination of Five Deacons at the Holy Family Cathedral, Kukah spoke lamented that Buhari’s administration refusal to release names of Boko Haram sponsors is not doing the country any good at all.

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya will today inaugurate three new security exercises nationwide as a move to tackle insecurity head-on.
