A former presidential spokesman, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has kicked against the alleged plan to zone 2023 presidency to the North by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement which was made available to Africa Daily News, New York yesterday, Okupe stated that; ‘There is a strong indication that the party is erroneously tilting towards zoning the presidency to the North. Zoning is a veritable instrument that ensures equity and balancing in the nation, gives hope and confidence and support to our national unity’.

The Presidency has explained that President Muhammadu Buhari is actually seeking foreign loans to fund projects and programmes Nigerians benefit from.

In a statement on Saturday on Saturday which was sighted by Africa Daily News, New York, the presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu listed projects and beneficiaries of the loans.

The Buhari administration is under fire after the President wrote to the Senate to approve $4.054bn and €710million credit.

Shehu explained that 15 projects, across the six geo-political zones, are to be financed with the anticipated funds from multilateral institutions, under the 2018-2021 medium-term (rolling) external borrowing plan.

US President, Joe Biden has signed an executive order that would allow for sanctions against the warring parties in Ethiopia’s Tigray region if they fail to commit to a negotiated settlement.

In a statement on Friday, Biden called the situation a tragedy and said: ‘I am appalled by the reports of mass murder, rape, and other sexual violence to terrorize civilian populations.’

The Chairman of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee who is also the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri has assured members of the party that the coming convention of the party would be the best it has ever witnessed in its 23 years history.

Mr Fintiri made this disclosure during the inauguration of the committee at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday.

A group, Northern Youths Leaders Forum (NYLF), has claimed that the Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerians have today is not the Buhari they elected as president in 2015.

National President of the NYLF, Comrade Elliot Afiyo, who led the group to a news conference in Yola on Friday, stated that Buhari has been caged and unable to influence good governance in line with his sterling innate character.

‘The real spotless Buhari has been caged,’ Afiyo said, adding that Buhari has been laminated and his core personality replaced with the unsavoury Buhari that Nigerians know today.
