Okonjo-Iweala Considers Quitting WTO Job – Officials

Barely seven months into her four-year tenure as the Director-General at the World Trade Organisation (WTO), there are credible reports that Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is growing frustrated with the workings of the organization and has floated the idea of resigning if no headway can be found on critical issues.

According to Bloomberg, at least five trade officials, who declined to be identified, reported that Okonjo-Iweala has fully grasped the frustrating reality of the WTO’s historical inertia, and has considered relinquishing the position.

2000 Bandits ‘Informants’ Arrested In Zamfara – Commissioner

No fewer than 2000 bandits informants have been nabbed in Zamfara State as a result of the telecommunications shutdown in the state, according to the State Commissioner Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara.

The Commissioner made this disclosure in Kaduna State on Thursday while giving an update on the ongoing military operations in the state.

He revealed that the suspected informants are undergoing serious interrogation for them to open up on the identities of their perpetrators ‎and collaborators.

According to him, some of the arrested informants ‎mentioned names of highly influential individuals as their collaborators.

Côte d’Ivoire Moves To Probe Minister Over Rape Allegation

Prosecutors in Côte d’Ivoire have revealed that they had opened an investigation into a prominent minister who was recently accused of rape by a young woman.

Africa Daily News, New York reports the probe is mainly focused on the minister for reconciliation, Kouadio Konan Bertin, who also contested last year’s presidential election.

‘The young woman filed a complaint with the police. A (judicial) investigation is underway,’ the prosecutor’s office said, adding that Bertin had filed a suit against her for libel.

‘The two cases will be handled concurrently,’ the official said.

The Lagos State Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) has announced the shutting down of 99 health facilities in the last eight months for being substandard.

The was made public by the Executive Secretary, HEFAMAA, Dr. Abiola Idowu on Wednesday during a sensitisation campaign in Epe, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

According to Idowu, between January and August 2021, the agency shut 99 health facilities due to non-compliance with the set standard and for not registering with the agency.

Banditry: Kaduna Govt Shuts Down Telecoms Services

As part of critical measures towards ending banditry, the Kaduna State Government has shut down Telecommunication services in several Local Government Areas of the state.

 

The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, explained that the decision was taken on Wednesday following a meeting with relevant federal agencies who recommended the shutting down of telecom services ahead of the commencement of a military onslaught against bandits.
