US President, Joe Biden has signed an executive order that would allow for sanctions against the warring parties in Ethiopia’s Tigray region if they fail to commit to a negotiated settlement.

In a statement on Friday, Biden called the situation a tragedy and said: ‘I am appalled by the reports of mass murder, rape, and other sexual violence to terrorize civilian populations.’

The executive order establishes a ‘sanctions regime to increase pressure on the parties fuelling this conflict to sit down at the negotiating table and, in the case of Eritrea, withdraw forces,’ a senior administration official said.

The Chairman of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee who is also the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri has assured members of the party that the coming convention of the party would be the best it has ever witnessed in its 23 years history.

Mr Fintiri made this disclosure during the inauguration of the committee at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday.
