Pope Calls On Europe To Show Pandemic ‘Solidarity’

Pope Francis has called for Europe to show ‘solidarity’ around the world during the economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Christian religious leader made the comments while speaking on a visit to Slovakia — one of the worst-hit countries in Europe.

On his first foreign trip since a colon operation in July, the 84-year-old Argentine pontiff called the pandemic ‘the great test of our own time’.

‘It has taught us how easy it is, even when we are all in the same boat, to withdraw and think only of ourselves,’ he said.

The UN human rights chief on Monday stated that gross violations were being perpetrated by all sides in Tigray while also warning that the conflict risked spreading throughout the Horn of Africa.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva that civilian suffering was widespread in the northern region of Ethiopia.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed sent troops into Tigray in November last year.

Ajuri Ngelale who is the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Public Affairs, on Monday, knocked Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, for allegedly being tribalistic and aggressive in his pursuit for the collection of Value Added Taxes (VAT) by the South-South state.

240 Inmates Escape As Gunmen Break Kogi Prison

No fewer than 240 inmates have escaped the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kabba, Kogi State, following an attack by unknown gunmen.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) spokesman, Mr Francis Enobore confirmed the incident in a communique on Monday which was sighted by Africa Daily News, New York, stated that the attack took place sometime around midnight on Sunday.
