Canada Temporarily Closes Embassy In Kabul

Canada is temporarily closing its embassy in Kabul after evacuating staff ahead of an feared takeover of Government by Taliban fighters, the Foreign Ministry in Ottawa announced Sunday.

The ministry said in a statement that Canadian personnel were already on their way back to Canada.

It added that the embassy would reopen once conditions allowed a resumption of normal activities under adequate security.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that following the withdrawal of most US troops and the Taliban’s stunningly rapid advance through much of the country, its fighters were poised to take Afghan capital.

Nine Killed As Bandits Attack Sokoto Villages

Bandits have killed at least nine persons in a fresh attack on Bejingo, Dantudu, and Tulutu villages in Birjin ward, Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

A source who preferred to remain anonymous confirmed to Africa Daily News, New York that the assailants attacked the villages yesterday raiding many houses.

Rescuers in Turkey on Saturday continued to find survivors of flash floods as the death toll rose to 44, according to a provisional tally.

The government’s disaster agency AFAD said specialised teams were combing through the rubble of dozens of homes that collapsed due to the floods that hit Black Sea regions on Wednesday after heavy rains.
