SERAP Sues Buhari Over Gag Order On Reporting Of Banditry

The Socio-Economic Rights and AccountabilityProject (SERAP) and the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development have dragged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed to court over the order stopping journalists and broadcast stations from reporting details of terrorist attacks and victims in the country.

They are asking the court to declare the order as unconstitutional and anti-human rights.

Also joined in the suit as Defendant, is the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

The suit followed the directive by NBC, asking journalists, television and radio stations in Nigeria to stop ‘glamourising and giving too many details …

Tension As Drone Attacks Iraq Base Hosting US Troops

A drone attack has been carried out on a military base in Iraqi Kurdistan that hosts American troops, without causing any casualties, the US-led coalition has revealed.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the attack comes with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhemi expected to meet US President Joe Biden in Washington on Monday to discuss a possible full US troop withdrawal from his country.

‘An unmanned aerial system impacted a coalition base in Kurdistan’ in the early hours of Friday, coalition spokesman US Colonel Wayne Marotto said in a statement.

Suspected members of a notorious Islamist militia killed 16 people who were returning from a weekly market in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) yesterday, Africa Daily News, New York has learnt.

The dead from the ambush on which was reported evening included six women and a child, all of whom were shot, Jerome Munyambethe, head of the hospital in the town of Oicha, told reporters.
