All US Troops Leave Afghanistan’s Biggest Air Base

All US and NATO troops have left Afghanistan’s biggest air base, officials, yesterday revealed, but President Joe Biden dampened speculation that the complete withdrawal of foreign forces from the country was imminent after two decades of war.

‘No. We’re on, we’re on track exactly as to where we expect to be,‘ he told reporters at the White House, after the news that US troops had left Bagram Air Base fuelled rumours that the final contingents were due to leave the country within days.

Biden has set a deadline of September 11 for the final pullout of remaining troops.

Ugandan internet users have been hit by a new tax on mobile data in a move the country’s opposition leader branded a new assault on freedom of speech.

The levy came into effect on Thursday and imposes a 12 percent excise duty on mobile data, pushing up costs in a nation already bogged down by sky-high data fees.

The new tax is part of a government initiative to raise revenue for public services and will replace a fiercely-contested social media tax imposed in 2018, the minister of state for finance and planning, Amos Lugoloobi, told reporters.

Zuma Urge Court To Review 15-Month Sentence

Barely two days to go before the deadline for South Africa’s former President Jacob Zuma to hand himself over to police, he has asked the country’s highest court to review its decision to sentence him to 15 months in jail.

On Tuesday, the Constitutional Court found him guilty of contempt after he ignored the court’s ruling that he should attend an inquiry looking into corruption while he was president.

In court papers filed yesterday, Mr. Zuma has asked for the order to be ‘reconsidered and rescinded’, Africa Daily News, New York reports.

The Ondo State Security Network Agency is better known as Operation Amotekun have announced the arrest of at least 400 cows in its ongoing ‘Operation Clean up’ in the state.

The state Commander of the corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye made this disclosure when he spoke to newsmen in Akure yesterday.
