We Can’t Give You A New Constitution, Senate Tells Nigerians

The Nigerian Senate has ruled out the possibility of giving Nigerians a new constitution despite a mass campaign for it across the country.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that different stakeholders and groups, including Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, had called for a new constitution that will capture the agitations of many Nigerians, instead of amending the present 1999 constitution, which they said had outlived its usefulness.

They said the current 1999 constitution can not sufficiently address the socio-economic challenges currently ravaging the nation.

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has said that it is important cannabis cultivated for medicinal purposes be legalized in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has dismissed rumours of mass retirement of some generals in the Nigerian Army, following the appointment of Maj. Gen. Farouk Yahaya as the Chief of Army Staff.

The Pan-Arewa Socio-political Organisation, Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has lambasted President Muhammdu Buhari over his comments where he made reference to the civil war.
