The Nigerian Senate has ruled out the possibility of giving Nigerians a new constitution despite a mass campaign for it across the country.

Africa Daily News, New York reports that different stakeholders and groups, including Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, had called for a new constitution that will capture the agitations of many Nigerians, instead of amending the present 1999 constitution, which they said had outlived its usefulness.

They said the current 1999 constitution can not sufficiently address the socio-economic challenges currently ravaging the nation.

Nigeria’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that Nigeria is now a land flowing with bitterness and sadness, lamenting that it is not what God wanted it to be.

Obasanjo spoke in Abeokuta, Ogun State while receiving a book titled, ‘The Man, The General and The President.’

Africa Daily News, New York gathered that the book was written by Femmy Carrena.

According to Obasanjo, his prayer was that everyone would have something to contribute to making Nigeria what God has created it to be, which is a land flowing with milk and honey.

The Pan-Arewa Socio-political Organisation, Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has lambasted President Muhammdu Buhari over his comments where he made reference to the civil war.

In a statement, CNG, through its Spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Sulaiman, yesterday, opined that Buhari’s remark was not only empty but unpresidential, adding that the tweet merely amounted to admission of failure and loss of capacity.

‘We find it ridiculous that most parts of the President’s tweet concentrated more attention to infrastructure than on the lives of citizens that are wasted daily with virtually no response from the authorities.

Social Media platform, Twitter has explained why it deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet, which had been received with mixed reactions by Nigerians.

The controversial tweet, which was part of a thread by Buhari which was sighted bybAfrca Daily News, New York on Tuesday, reads: ‘Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Civil War.

‘Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.’
