Merkel Urges Better EU Coordination On Virus Travel Rules

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has expressed her desire for better coordination on pandemic travel rules among the bloc’s 27 member states.

With the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus, which has become more rapid, Merkel have insisted it was problematic to have a patchwork of regulations.

I regret that we haven’t managed yet to have completely uniform action among the member states on travel guidelines — that is coming back to haunt us,’ she told reporters after a meeting with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen.

Sudanese Prime Minister has warned of ‘deeply worrying’ fractures within the country’s security forces while calling for reconciliation between civilian and military-political factions.

Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok made the comments as he announced an initiative to unify the factions guiding Sudan through a fragile transition following the April 2019 ouster of dictator Omar al-Bashir.

No fewer than 11 Burkina Faso police officers were killed while 4 are still missing after their unit was ambushed yesterday by yet to be identified gunmen, the country’s security minister has revealed.

The United States Consulate’s Public Affairs Officer, Mr Stephen Ibelli, has revealed that about 13,000 Nigerian students are admitted to the U.S annually.

Ibelli made the disclosure during the launch of the ‘Windows on America’ Hub at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka yesterday.

He described Nigerians as one of the most dominant immigrant groups in the US.

According to him; ‘Windows on America’ hub was aimed at providing Nigerian youths with educational opportunities available in USA.
