Residents Flee As Bandits Loot Shops, Rustle 250 Cows

Bandits have attacked Warari community in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.

Hundreds fled their homes as the outlaws stormed the village with 50 motorcycles, carrying 3 persons each.

The lucky ones deserted their homes about an hour before the bandits arrived.

‘We learnt about the attack from villagers of other communities they raided before coming to Warari’, a local said.

Those who escaped the attack relocated to Rijau town, according to PRNigeria.

Man Who Slapped Macron Gets Jail Sentence

The man who slapped French President Emmanuel Macron across the face this week has been sentenced to a prison term of 18 months, 14 of which were suspended by a French court.

The man identified as Damien Tarel, a 28-year-old medieval history enthusiast, has been in custody since the assault on Tuesday which a prosecutor called ‘absolutely unacceptable’ and ‘an act of deliberate violence’.

Speaking at court in the town of Valence, prosecutor Alex Perrin called for an 18-month prison term after describing the slap as ‘absolutely unacceptable’ and ‘an act of deliberate violence’.

September Vaccination Deadline Unlikely For Africa – WHO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has revealed that nearly 90 percent of African countries will miss a target of vaccinating a tenth of their population by September unless they urgently receive more than 200 million jabs which currently appears unlikely.

Only seven African countries (out of 54) are likely to reach the target,’ the World Health Organization’s director for Africa, Matshidiso Moeti, said in an online briefing which was monitored by Africa Daily News, New York.

At least 225 million jabs are urgently required if the majority of the countries are to meet the deadline, she said.
