Twitter: Ortom Dares FG, Tweets, Says Ban Illegal

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has defied Federal government’s ban on Twitter operation in the country by tweeting via his official handle.

Africa Daily News, New York recalls that FG had on Friday last week suspended the operation of the microblogging platform for allegedly allowing contents capable of threatening the corporate existence of Nigerians.

Tribal War Leaves 36 Dead In South Darfur

Clashes between Arab and non-Arab tribes in South Darfur have left no fewer than 36 people dead and dozens wounded.

The fighting broke out on Saturday between the Arab al-Taisha and ethnic African Fallata tribes in the remote Um Dafuq area of South Darfur, witnesses said.

According to sources in the area, calm has been restored to the city as the people mourn the dead.

It was not immediately clear what triggered the clashes but similar fighting often erupts in the Darfur region over land and access to water.

UEFA has announced that a new handball rule will be used at the Euro 2020, Africa Daily News, New York reports.

The new rule has been designed to not penalise attackers if they accidentally commit a handball in the build-up to a goal.

Malian coup plotter Colonel Assimi Goita was sworn in as transitional president of the chronically unstable Sahel state yesterday, Africa Daily News, New York can confirm.

The ceremony which took place in the capital Bamako came after Goita, the leader of a coup last August, ousted the civilian president and prime minister of a transitional government on May 24, to international condemnation.

Nigerian Navy Launches New Warship In UAE

The Nigerian Navy (NN) has announced the launching of a new Landing Ship Tank (LST) at Damen Shipyard, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

This announcement was contained in a statement available to newsmen in Abuja by Nigerian Navy Spokesman, Commodore Suleman Dahun, on behalf of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo.

He stated that the construction of the ship began about two years ago and when commissioned, would replace the first set of LSTs of the NN, NNS AMBE, and NNS OFIOM which have been decommissioned.
