President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the Senate to confirm the appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya.
Buhari’s request was contained in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and read during resumption of plenary on Tuesday.

The President, in the letter, said Yahaya’s appointment was in compliance with the provisions of Section 18 subsection 1 of the Armed Forces Act 2004.

A militant group, the Supreme Egbesu Freedom Fighters (SEFF), today issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to inaugurate the substantive board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Kenya has warned that it may impose a total ban on flights from Somalia including those on humanitarian missions that Somalia was exploring loopholes to undermine their bilateral relationship.
The foreign affairs ministry said in a letter to diplomatic missions that humanitarian flights were being misused for ‘bilateral and political matters’ even after Kenya had suspended flights.

At least half of the two million people living with HIV in Mozambique are without access to treatment as the country ranked fourth in the world in terms of the new HIV infection rate.
Mozambican Health Minister Armindo Tiago made this revelation yesterday while launching the study result of the People Living with HIV (PLHIV) Stigma Index in Maputo.
