Zamfara Police Beefs Up Security, Deploys Over 2000 Police Men

Ahead of the Eid el Fitr celebrations, the Zamfara State Police Commissioner, Mr Hussaini Rabiu has assured indigenes of adequate security, informing that over 2000 police operatives have been deployed to all the nooks and cranny of the state.

In a press statement signed by the police spokesman in the state, Mohammed Shehu and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the commissioner directed all the Area Commanders, DPOs and other tactical commanders to be on constant patrol.

Senators React As Southern Governors Call For Restructuring

The Southern Senators’ Forum has commended steps taken by state governors from the region to stem the rise in insecurity.

Recall that the Southern Governors’ Forum on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to urgently convoke a national dialogue to address the wide spread agitations in the nation.

The 15 members in attendance also called for restructuring of the country leading to the evolution of state police.

The governors also called for enforcement of the ban on open grazing in the south (including cattle movement to the south by foot).

After 8 Days With Kidnappers, Female Journalist Freed

An editor with the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) who was kidnapped last week, has regained her freedom.

Mrs Amra Ahmed, a nursing mother and News Editor with the ABC Yola, was kidnapped on the night of May 4th at her residence in Mbamba, Yola North Local Government Area.

Rumour had it that the kidnappers demanded ransom, but the family would not confirm it, insisting that they were praying fervently for her release.

US Authorises Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine For 12-15 Year Olds

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Monday authorised the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for children aged 12 to 15 years old.

Speaking yesterday President Joe Biden said; ‘This is a promising development in our fight against the virus’.

‘If you are a parent who wants to protect your child or a teenager who is interested in getting vaccinated, today’s decision is a step closer to that goal.’

The FDA previously granted an emergency use authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to individuals aged 16 and older.

China’s population has grown more than five percent over the past decade to pass 1.4 billion people, Beijing yesterday, as it unveiled its census results.

China’s birthrate has been in steady decline since 2017, despite Beijing’s relaxation of the decades-old “one-child policy” in order to try and avert a looming demographic crisis.

Burkina Faso Army ‘Kills 20 Jihadists In New Push’

No fewer than 20 jihadists have been killed and four terrorists’ bases destroyed in Burkina Faso during the first week of an ongoing military operation, the army has revealed.

Kenya Suspends Flights from Somalia, Gives Reasons

Kenya has announced that flights between Nairobi and Mogadishu had been suspended, just days after Somalia said diplomatic ties with its neighbour had been normalised following months of tension.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) said commercial flights to and from Somalia would be paused for three months, without giving a reason.

‘All flights between Kenya and Somalia are suspended except medevac flights and United Nations flights on humanitarian missions only,’ the regulator said.

KCAA director-general Gilbert Kibe told reporters the suspension was ‘a decision by the government’ but gave no further details.

Jubilation As Onne PortTerminal Opens, Handles 2 Vessels

Onne Multipurpose Terminal (OMT), a new terminal at the Onne Port in Rivers State, has commenced operations as it has handled two vessels since last week with the first ship delivering 1,297 containers.

According to a statement by the operating company, International Container Terminal Services.

Governors of the southern states on Tuesday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to address Nigerians and convoke a national dialogue.

The governors expressed worries over the escalating insecurity in the land, noting that addressing Nigerians by the president would go a long in dousing tension and restoring confidence.
