Chinese Rocket To Tumble Back To Earth In ‘Wild’ Re-Entry

A large segment of a Chinese rocket is expected to make an uncontrolled re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere over the weekend, but Beijing has downplayed fears of damage on the ground and said the risk is minimal.

Africa Daily News recalls that a Long March-5B rocket launched the first module of China’s new space station into Earth’s orbit on April 29.

Its 18-tonne main segment is now in freefall and experts have said it is difficult to say precisely where and when it will re-enter the atmosphere.

Russian space agency Roscosmos predicted the rocket will re-enter after 2330 GMT Saturday …

The EU has announced the conclusion of a deal with BioNTech/Pfizer for up to 1.8 billion extra doses of their Covid-19 vaccine, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said on Saturday.

Making the announcement, she tweeted from an EU summit in Portugal saying; ‘Happy to announce that the EU Commission has just approved a contract for guaranteed 900 million doses (+900 million options) with BioNTech/Pfizer for 2021-2023,

‘Other contracts and other vaccine technologies will follow,’ she further promised.

Minister Assures On Diaspora Voting

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada, has assured Nigerians abroad that the plans to commence Diaspora voting may become a reality soon.

He said Nigerians abroad are part of the county and as such should be allowed to exercise their franchise.

The minister disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission and the National Assembly were currently working to make this materialise.

Dada made this disclosure when he spoke during the Diaspora Quarterly lecture series of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission which was monitored online by our correspondent on Saturday.
