Strike: Nigerian Govt, Doctors Sign New Agreement

The Nigerian Government on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Action (MoA) with striking National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to end the ongoing action.

The MoA was the second in a fortnight. The first one was signed on March 31, but was later rejected by the striking doctors.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, confirmed this on Saturday in Abuja disclosing that the new MoA was signed after a conciliatory meeting between representatives of the Government and those of NARD.

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has insisted that Nigeria can’t stop borrowing, mainly when it’s necessary.

Mr Godwin Emefiele, the CBN Governor, disclosed this in Abuja on Friday at the National Dialogue on Nigeria’s rising debt profile, titled: ‘The Rising Public Debt in Nigeria and the Challenges of National Development,’ organised by the Action Aid Nigeria (AAN).

Emefiele, who was represented by Dr Tawose Joseph, the Assistant Director, Monetary Policy Department, CBN, said there is no crime in borrowing.

Nigeria’s immediate past Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdul-Rahman Dambazau (rtd), on Friday, declared that the O’odua People’s Congress (OPC) and the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) all share similarities with Boko Haram because they’re all are extremist groups.

Dambazau made this assertion at Army War College in Abuja while delivering a lecture to participants of course 5/2021.

He alleged that the two groups were sponsoring a new wave of extremism that could ignite ethnic conflict so as to achieve their aims of dividing the country.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Friday stated that striker Edinson Cavani was still ‘unsure’ about his future beyond the end of the Premier League season. 

The 34-year-old Uruguay international arrived at Old Trafford as a free agent in October on a deal until the end of the campaign with the option of a further year.

As tensions continue to build up between Russia and Ukraine the Turkish foreign ministry has confirmed that the US has concluded plans to send two warships through the Bosphorus to the Black Sea next week.

According to the Turkish ministry, the ships will pass through the Bosphorus and enter the increasingly restless region on April 14 and 15 and leave on May 4 and May 5.

Going by normal protocols, Washington is required to give Ankara at least 15 days’ notice before sending warships through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits under the terms of the 1936 Montreux Convention.

The United States Mission to Nigeria has alerted Nigerians over a fraudulent visa report being circulated on social media warning them to ignore any information that is not officially from the US Embassy.

The fraudulent visa press release in question had claimed that the US was issuing a new type of work visa to Nigerians willing to migrate to the United States.
