Covid-19: Angela Merkel Finally Receives AstraZeneca Jab

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday received her first dose of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine, more than two weeks after German authorities recommended the use of the jab only for people aged 60 and over.

Merkel is stepping down this year after nearly 16 years in power.

I am delighted to have received my first vaccination with AstraZeneca today. I thank everyone involved in the vaccination campaign and everyone who gets vaccinated. Vaccination is the key to getting out of the pandemic,’ the 66-year-old said in a tweet posted by her spokesman Steffen Seibert.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits yesterday attacked Rarah village of Rabbah Local Government in Sokoto State killing over 9 people while also leaving many others injured.

The French embassy in Pakistan on Thursday urged all French nationals and companies in Pakistan to temporarily leave the country after violent anti-France protests paralysed large parts of the country this week.

In an email it sent to its citizens; ‘Due to the serious threats to French interests in Pakistan, French nationals and French companies are advised to temporarily leave the country,’ the French Embassy.

Anti-terrorist prosecutors in France have asked for a Rwandan former policeman to be made to stand trial in Paris for genocide and crimes against humanity in his homeland in 1994.

The Ex-Police chief, Philippe Hategekimana has been in detention in France for two years since his extradition from Cameroon, where he was arrested following a warrant from France to that effect in 2018.

He is being accused of putting up checkpoints where ethnic Tutsis were slaughtered in the southern town of Ntyazo, and of complicity in the murder of the town’s mayor Narcisse Nyagasaza.

More Trouble For Nigeria As Inflation Rate Hits 18.17%

Nigeria’s economic woes are far from over as the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), yesterday announced that the inflation rate has risen to 18.17 percent in March 2021.

The new rate is 0.82 percent higher than the 17.33 per rate it was as at February 2021.

Its data titled: ‘Consumer Price Index March 2021(Base Period December 2009=100)’.

Relief As FG Lifts Ban On New SIM Registration

The Federal Government of Nigeria has lifted the ban on new Subscribers Identification Module (SIMs) card registration Africa Daily News, New York can confirm.

Going by the latest directive, the effective date for implementation is Monday, April 19, 2021.

However, NIN registration is mandatory for registering new SIM cards as a pre-requisite.

The decision to lift the ban was contained in the revised National Digital Identity Policy for SIM Card Registration approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
