Prisoners Escape As Gunmen Attack SA Police Van

No fewer than 30 prisoners have escaped after a police van that was transporting them to a law court was attacked by gunmen in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

According to credible sources, some of the prisoners remained in the van that was forced open by heavily armed attackers.

KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said police were looking for those who escaped.

A voice note has been circulated online urging residents to beware as the escapees might be looking for civilian clothes, the Independent Online website reports.

FG Grants Dangote Cement ₦22.32B Tax Credit

The Federal Government through the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has issued Dangote Cement Plc, tax credit certificates valued at ₦22.321billion.

The tax credit certificates were issued to the cement manufacturers after they ensured the construction of Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota road in Lagos and Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba road straddling Kogi and Kwata states.

Construction giants Julius Berger is handling the construction of the two federal roads, while Dangote Cement Plc is providing the funding.

To compensate Dangote Cement, the Federal Government has issued the company the certificates to cover for the tax that Dangote Cement would have paid.

The communication regulator in Kenya has suspended a television station and fined it for airing a pornographic scene during a children’s programme which violated broadcasting ethics.

The media house identified as Mt Kenya television has been fined 500,000 Kenyan shillings ($4,600:£3,300).

The station will also be off air for four weeks for the offence.

The House of Representatives Committee on Host Communities has assured host communities who are victims of Oil spillage that the legislature would not spare any effort to ensure environmental justice and restoration of livelihoods for their communities. 

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Host Communities, Dumnamene Dekor,  gave the assurance in Port Harcourt, Rivers State when he spoke with some of the affected communities.

Just a few days after accusing the federal government of Nigeria of abandoning the state in the fight to check insurgency, Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has now recanted saying that his administration is working with the federal authorities to bring an end to banditry in parts of the state.
