Biden, Lawmakers Honour Slain US Capitol Police Officer

US President Joe Biden and congressional leaders paid their respects to an officer struck by a car and killed while he manned a barricade near the Senate side of the building the invasion of the Capitol Hill in January.

The coffin of slain Police Officer William ‘Billy’ Evans arrived at the Capitol on Tuesday as Biden and other lawmakers lined up to honour the fallen patriot.

The person who was discovered dead after being shot at a high school in the US state of Tennessee was a student who started a shoot-out with police, according to federal law enforcement.

According to a statement from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Officers raced to Austin-East Magnet High School in Knoxville on Monday afternoon after receiving reports of multiple gunshot victims and a person possibly carrying a weapon.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that over one million people are facing severe hunger in northern Mozambique, where hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced following the jihadist insurgency being witnessed in the region.

WEF gave this warning on Tuesday during a news conference in Geneva.

‘As the security situation continues to deteriorate, more than 950,000 people in the north of Mozambique are now facing severe hunger,’ Tomson Phiri, a spokesman for the WFP was quoted to have said.

Over 34 Migrants Die In Djibouti Boat Tragedy

No fewer than 34 people have reportedly drowned after a boat capsized off the coast of Djibouti, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has said.

According to the IOM, the boat ‘operated by people smugglers’ was carrying about 60 migrants escaping conflict in Yemen and who were on their way to Djibouti.
