Senate Considers Bill To Unbundle NIPOST

The Senate has commenced moves to unbundle the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) with the consideration of a bill to repeal the Nigerian Postal Service Act 2004.

The bill, which scaled second reading on Tuesday, was sponsored by Senator Oluremi Tinubu (APC, Lagos Central).

Tinubu said the legislation seeks a reform of the Postal Industry and to make Comprehensive Provisions for the Development and Regulation of Postal Services in Nigeria.

The lawmaker recalled NIPOST dates back 1852 and evolved from an exigency of the colonial administration to a Collection Office of the United Kingdom.

Officials in the United States on Tuesday stated that North Korea fired two missiles off its west coast over the weekend in its first publicly known weapons test since Joe Biden took office as president in January.

Two senior officials from the Biden administration told reporters in a briefing call that the North Korean activity involved weapons systems that were not covered by UN Security Council testing bans.

Two other US officials, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, told news correspondents that North Korea had fired two short-range missiles but declined to elaborate.
