The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Osun State Chapter, has revealed that they would be joining the national body to protest publicly after the expiration of the 21 days ultimatum given to the federal government on the implementation of the consequential adjustment to pensions.

The Secretary of the union in Osun, comrade Dele Aina also revealed that some groups of pensioners in the state agitating for a harmonised pension scheme still earned between ₦300, ₦500 and ₦600 as pension monthly.

Mahmoud al-Werfalli, a senior Libyan military figure who owes allegiance to renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar and wanted for alleged war crimes by the International Criminal Court (ICC), has been shot dead by unidentified attackers in the eastern city of Benghazi.

According to reports, the gunmen on Wednesday opened fire on a vehicle carrying al-Werfalli, seriously wounding him and his cousin, Ayman.

The pair were pronounced dead on arrival at Benghazi Medical Centre, located near the scene of the shooting, another security source said.

Pharmaceutical heavyweights AstraZeneca, on Wednesday, updated its data on how well its coronavirus vaccine works, stating that the vaccine showed 76 percent efficacy against symptomatic coronavirus disease.

The latest data was based on a study that involved 190 cases of coronavirus among more than 32,400 participants in the United States, Chile, and Peru.

Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has said that the country’s rising inflation was due to insecurity.

He made the remark on Tuesday while presenting the communique from the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting.
