Tension As Russia Recalls Washington Envoy

Trouble might be brewing between Moscow and Washington as Russia on Wednesday revealed that it had summoned its Washington ambassador for consultations on its ties with the United States

The European country however believes the consultations won’t prevent an ‘irreversible deterioration‘ in relations.

The announcement from the Russian foreign ministry came after US President Joe Biden said Russia would ‘pay a price‘ for meddling in US elections and he agreed with the assessment that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin is a ‘killer.’

Nigeria, on Wednesday, received another batch of 118 Nigerians stranded in Libya.

A tweet on the official Twitter page of ‘Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, said the returnees arrived in the country at 1:30 am on 17th March, 2021.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has warned members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN) in Taraba State against selling petrol above the official pump price of ₦162 per litre.

Mr Jeremiah Mashat, Operational Controller of DPR Field Operation’s Office in Jalingo, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

Maahat said that the department had directed its team to monitor compliance and sanction erring operators appropriately.

Don’t Withdraw Troops From Afghan, Official Warns Congress

A highly rated United States official working on Afghanistan has warned Congress that a withdrawal of US troops from the country without first brokering a peace agreement between the Afghan government and the Taliban would be ‘a disaster’.

John Sopko, the US Department of Defense’s special inspector for Afghanistan reconstruction, issued a warning to a House of Representatives committee on Tuesday noting that without US military and financial support, the Afghan government in Kabul could face collapse.
